Why Should We Gather?

  • Banner 1

The Church is not a physical building but the people who gather to worship the name of God.

For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them. ––Matthew 18:20

The word congregate comes from the Greek verb “sunago”, which means to gather together in harmony. Every believer should know the reason why they should gather. Some do it out of tradition, others out of habit, and still others simply out of compliance.

It is for this reason that we must learn about this topic, so that, as true believers, we do not fall into doing things without knowing why we do them; but rather, we do everything knowing its biblical basis.

Why should we gather?

  • To gather as the body of Christ is a command from the Lord. “…not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:25-26).
  • Because it is good to worship God together. “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Psalm 133:1)
  • When we gather together, the bodily anointing is greater because we all worship in one spirit at the same time.
  • When we gather together, we can receive spiritual covering (in anointing, prayer and comfort)
  • By coming together, we access the benefits of being planted, trained, equipped, taught to serve and do God’s purpose.

The person who does not plant himself, hinders the will of God in his life.

What kind of people make up the church?

Not everyone who comes to church is a believer. Some are “first cousins,” while others are “half-brothers”; that is to say that they are those who say they are Christians, but have not been born again. Everything exists in the churches. It is there where we can find the following types of people:

The goats. Who are the goats in a congregation?

“All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.” ––Matthew 25:32

They are people who come to church for convenience. They want, for example, their children to come and seek God, but they themselves are not born again.  They are people who go looking for something occasionally, but when they leave, they continue in their sin and in their “minimal shame.”

“The lambs will provide your clothing and the goats the price of a field…” ––Proverbs 27:26

The sons and daughters of the house. On these falls all the responsibility of a church. They are the men and women who are fully committed to the church and the vision; those who no matter what happens, remain and bear fruit in the church.  It is with the sons that a ministry can be built.

The average amount of sons or daughters in a local church is twenty percent of the total congregation.

  • These are the people who put their “hands on the plow”, who fight side by side with the pastor, give of themselves with their lives, finances, gifts, etc. These are also the people who are most hurt in the church and who God uses and blesses the most.
  • The sons of the house are the ones who pay the price in a local church. The ones who sacrifice everything for the service of the Lord. It is from these people that God recruits the generals, lieutenants, and colonels for Christ’s army to use.
  • The sons of the house are the ones who are zealous for the work of God; they are the first to arrive and the last to leave.
  • The sons and daughters of the house are the ones who do any kind of work in the church.
  • The sons and daughters are the armor bearers of their church pastor, leaders and brothers.

Sometimes, we spend so much time in one place watching one man, that the time comes when we begin to depend more on him than on God, and we cannot receive from anyone else; therefore, if this fails, our life becomes a disaster, because we did not have our eyes on Jesus, but rather on the man.

We, as good believers, are supposed to model Jesus on others. However, keep in mind that there is only one perfect and righteous being in the universe who is the only one who can fill the empty and lonely heart; the only one who will never leave us: Jesus!
