5 Qualities of a SUPERHERO Dad

  • Banner 1

The qualities that make up a good father have changed throughout generations. But there are certain things that remain true.

The following are some of the qualities that are found in our heavenly Father’s character and that a true father has and practices as a lifestyle.

1. Purpose-Driven:

A true father is not driven by need, but by God’s purpose for his life. He actively seeks God for guidance and to be empowered in His presence to fulfill the calling of God. A purpose driven father understands that God’s will for his life and those under his fatherhood is good, acceptable and perfect, therefore he yields his own plans to God’s higher purpose, and this becomes his passion. He does not get distracted and does not waste his time. He is focused and in tune with the Holy Spirit, serves others, sacrifices for others, and has the peace of God. A man marked by a divine purpose takes care of his health, and is never overwhelmed by worry or stress, he knows that provision follows purpose. He can lead others because he himself is led by the Holy Spirit and God’s word.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.” – Matthew 6:33-34

2. Pioneer:

A father is a leader who paves the way. A pioneer has the courage to go where others haven’t been before and do what others are afraid to try. He inspires others to follow him, to not give up, to expand, to move forward. A pioneer is a visionary who has a clear perspective, can define the blueprint and lay a foundation, set clear goals, write the vision, and then lead the way, guide, correct, direct, delegate, make wise decisions, and lift other leaders to do the same.

“Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it.” – Habakkuk 2:2

3. Protector:

The heart of a true father is like David describes it in Psalm 32:7, a hiding place; that preserves us from trouble.  A true father is a shepherd and a shield for his family and those under his covering.  He provides a sense of security, covering, refuge. His children can run to him for counsel, safety, protection. He defends his people, anticipates danger, looks for the lost sheep, and heals their wounds. A protector plans, sets clear rules, warns his people of the enemy’s’ schemes. He is an example of righteousness, truth and integrity, and cares for others enough to set their paths straight, correcting them with love, not to control them but to protect them, to guide them, not to manipulate them.

“A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself, But the simple pass on and are punished. By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches and honor and life. Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse; He who guards his soul will be far from them. Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:3-6

4. Provider:

A responsible man anticipates, plans and provides for his family; not only all material and financial needs but all the spiritual or emotional ones as well. He is a source of wisdom, counsel, wealth, and joy.

“A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children” – Proverbs 13:22

5. Prepares others:

“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” – Deuteronomy 6:6-7

A father is a mentor, teacher, and trainer for all under his fatherhood. A father is not only a progenitor who gives his DNA to others, but he is also passionate about identifying and stirring up the gifts of God in others, and edifying those under his care. He endorses others, gives them an identity, affirms, imparts, activates, empowers them. He cultivates the leadership in others, believes in them, connects them and sends them to continue and expand the work he has started, believing they will do greater things by the grace of God.

“Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these.” – John 14:12 (NIV)
