How to Refocus

  • Banner 1

Amidst the distractions that surround us daily, we need to learn to refocus ourselves, so as not to lose the promises of God. Only by doing so are we able to fulfill our purpose in life, accomplish our goals, and be productive. However, before moving on to giving some advice regarding how to refocus ourselves, I want to establish what focus is and what produces it.

Focus is something internal that brings us to direct our attention and interest towards a certain subject. We could define it as the thought that makes the object of our focus more real. Focus is like a magnet that attracts everything that you fix your mind on; it attracts people, places, and things that contribute to the accomplishment of what you are focusing. When you are distracted, you do not attract anything; your life lacks results, it does not advance, nor does it produce anything new.

The law of attraction is a supernatural principle whose origin is God, which is why Romans 12:2 urges us to have the mind of Christ. You will never attract something without a clear focus; which means that if your focus is anchored on the negative, there will be a “fatal attraction.” With the mind of Christ, we will attract the will of the Father; otherwise, we will attract things that do not come from Him. Are you only attracting negative things or misfortunes to your life? Are you attracting what you do not want or what you enjoy least? If that is the case, your mind is not focused on the things of God, but rather is focused on something bad. For example, if someone believes that they do not deserve a good job, what they will attract are bad employments, low pay, bad bosses, no opportunity for growth, etc.

The reality that lives within will determine the reality that is seen on the outside.

When someone is not aware that the Holy Spirit lives within them, the external becomes more real than the internal; and the external, for the most part, is negative. When you are aware that He is within you, the exterior will not be real and instead will always be subjective. Example: when a doctor diagnoses someone with an incurable disease; if that person is aware that the Holy Spirit lives within them, the reality of that disease will easily be superseded by the supreme truth, which is that Jesus took all of our sicknesses and sufferings on the cross, and by His stripes we were healed.

Our focus produces the following effects:

  • Determines our way of thinking and fixes our mind
  • Determines our reality
  • Determines our direction in life and, for the most part, our future
  • Determines what we speak daily
  • Determines what occupies and preoccupies our mind most of the time
  • Reveals how we are inside and determines how we will be on the outside
