Four Obstacles That Stop God’s Financial Blessing for Your Life

  • Banner 1

There are certain topics in Christianity that have been poorly taught.  Unfortunately, this has caused the body of Christ to live well below the will of God.  While I can speak of many areas where this applies, one of these areas is the financial well being of the believer.  In the past, people have taught, at one extreme, that poverty is holiness. Another extreme has been that God will make everyone a multimillionaire. While neither one of these is correct, the Scripture, as a whole, teaches that God wants His people to prosper. So what are the obstacles to receiving God’s financial blessings?

1) Wrong Thinking

3 John 2 says: “Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.” Just as it is God’s will for you to grow spiritually, He has the exact same will for you to be in good health, and to be prosperous. The word prosperous means to be successful in life, including in business affairs. Repeat after me: “God wants me to prosper!” Now do it every day and as often as you need until you get rid of wrong thinking.

While we can give many verses on God’s desire to prosper us financially, let’s do a quick sanity check.  How many here would like their children to live in poverty? Nobody, right? Then how dare we think that God wants the same for us?  Enough said on this.

2) Generational Curses

Yes, curses are real.  People deny this truth all the time, yet their lives testify that they are living under a curse.  The good news is that: “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us—for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree’” (Gal 3:13) There is such a thing as a curse of poverty and lack. Its manifestation is that no matter how hard you work or study, there just seems to never be enough. Such curses often come when people or their ancestors were involved in idolatry, witchcraft or the occult. Jesus already paid for this, so you need to pray to God and say: “I ask for forgiveness for any sin I or my ancestors may have committed to cause a curse of poverty to come into my life.” Then say: “I break every curse of poverty in my life and command any demonic spirit associated with it to leave in the name of Jesus!” Break off that curse and ask God for His financial blessings!

3) Stealing from God

Many people believe that they can be financially blessed yet ignore the principle of the tithe. You can easily find people giving all kinds of arguments against a tithe, yet I have never seen people who give to God have an issue about it. In a sense, it is a measure of the condition of the heart. Let’s cut through the theology and go through this scenario. If you ask God, “should I tithe to you?” What do you think He would say?  If you ask Satan, “should I tithe to God?” What do you think he would say? The question is who are you agreeing with? In Malachi 3:8 and 9, God says: “Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you say, ‘How have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing Me…” Do you want to know what happens if you do tithe? It is very good, but I will leave it up to you to read it for yourself (Hint: it is verse 10).

4) Not Understanding the Principle of Sowing and Reaping

In today’s society, you often hear people use the word “karma” when talking about people being repaid good for good and evil for evil. While the full concept of karma- that you pay in this life for the evils of the last life, are completely unbiblical (as is the concept of reincarnation that is a part of this belief –see Hebrews 9:27), the concept of receiving good for good and evil for evil is a Biblical concept called the principle of sowing and reaping. “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.” (Gal 6:7) When you give to others (in addition to your tithe), you are sowing a seed that God will watch over to produce a financial blessing. Not only that, but the measure of your financial blessing is directly related to the level of your financial generosity. Jesus said: “Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.” (Luke 6:38)

Are you ready to remove the obstacles that have kept you from God’s financial blessings? If you are, get ready to enter into a season of financial blessing and prosperity!
