Dying to self means sacrificing something. You put aside your selfishness and desires to do what is pleasing to God.
For example, if someone did something bad towards you, when you forgive them, that is considered dying to self.
God wants us to present ourselves as living sacrifices and say no to our fears, anger, jealousy, doubts, and selfishness.
There is a price to pay if you want to see the power of God work in every area of your life.
When you offer anything to God you are taking a step towards Him. This is why consecration is the price we pay to carry His presence and His power. Every time we sacrifice, it is a sign to God that we want to draw closer to Him.
Sacrifice is a daily ritual and by doing so, you are sustaining change, healing and deliverance.
The greater the sacrifice, the greater the power.
“That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;” – Philippians 3:10
This is where a connection between dying to self and the power is seen. When you die to something, it hurts. If there is something you want, desire, or think is right, but deep down you know that it is not from God, you must die to it.
“He must increase, but I must decrease.” – John 3:30
If you are full of yourself, God will appear very little. In reality, it is supposed to be about Jesus. God says, in the realm of power and authority, there has to be an exchange.
Last Sunday, we spoke that every time we want to access the power of God, there is an exchange that takes place. This exchange consists of giving something and getting something in return.
The level of your worship, praise and consecration, determines the measure in which God will give back to you.
Jesus gave all of Himself to God and in return, God gave Him anointing and power without measure.
– Jesus’ worst enemy came up to Him and told Him to turn the stones into bread. Jesus knew He had the power to do it, but Jesus chose to deny Himself. He knew it was out of the will of God to prove a point to the devil.
– Another example is when Jesus was about to be crucified and someone slapped Him in the face, demanding Him to prophesy. It was easy to prove to everyone that He was the Son of God, but He didn’t. If Jesus would’ve succumbed to the temptation, He wouldn’t have gone to the cross and wouldn’t have died for humanity.
The sacrifice you do today will open the heavens.
